LEE Briers is a doubt for Warrington Wolves’ clash with second-placed Hull Kingston Rovers at Murrayfield as part of the Edinburgh Magic Weekend.

Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith confirmed Briers ‘tweaked’ his hamstring in the 40-18 defeat of Huddersfield Giants at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Briers cut a forlorn figure as he limped halfway round the pitch after exiting play in the 67th minute.

Smith said: “We think Lee has tweaked his hamstring a little bit which is a blow.

“Without being exceptional today – I’ve seen him play a couple of exceptional games recently – I thought he was pretty good.

“A couple of kicks weren’t to the standard that Lee would usually come up with but he bossed the game in the first half.”

If Briers does not make the Edinburgh trip, more responsibility will lay on the shoulders of fellow half back Michael Monaghan and Smith was pleased with the Australian’s display against Huddersfield.

“I thought Monaghan was very good today, particularly in the second half,” said Smith.

“He looked sharp and he got back to some of his better half-back sort of play.”
