MATTY Russell will spend the next chunk of the season away from Warrington Wolves.

It has been announced that the winger, who has played just once for Sam Burgess’ side this season, has joined fellow Super League side Leeds Rhinos on a two-month loan deal.

It is understood Russell’s deal at Headingley will expire just before the Rhinos head to The Halliwell Jones Stadium in Super League Round 17 on July 12.

The 30-year-old Scotland international has already spent time out on loan this season having played twice for Hull FC earlier in the year, scoring a try in their only win of the campaign to date against London Broncos in March.

He was brought into the Wire team for the Round Nine defeat at Salford Red Devils in place of the injured Matty Ashton, but youngster Arron Lindop was preferred for the clash with Hull FC that followed in Ashton’s continued absence.

Russell has scored three tries in 15 appearances for Warrington since returning for a second spell at the club last year having previously played 97 times for them between 2014 and 2018, scoring 30 tries.

His contract with The Wire is due to expire at the end of the current season.
