SAM Burgess is confident the ankle injury that forced Connor Wrench off the field during Warrington Wolves’ victory over Leigh Leopards is “nothing drastic.”

The homegrown centre limped off shortly after being stopped just short of the try line in the first half having cut inside from the right edge and found a gap in the defensive line.

Stefan Ratchford replaced him on the right edge as The Wire retrieved an eight-point deficit inside the final quarter to win 16-14 at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Wrench has had his fair share of injury issues since breaking into the first team, most notably an ACL injury which cost him more than half of the 2023 season.

He will now be scanned but Burgess is hopeful he would not be missing for too long.

“He's got an ankle problem, so we’ll get that scanned,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s anything drastic. It’s nothing that’s going to take him out for a long period of time so it’s just part of the game.”

Burgess confirmed that no further injuries of concern appeared to be picked up during the game, with The Wire now having a seven-day turnaround before their trip to Salford Red Devils.
