WOLVES were pushed all the way by Halifax but eventually recorded their sixth victory in a row.

The Wire put in an unconvincing display at The Halliwell Jones Stadium but tries from Peta Hiku, Matty Russell, Chris Hill and Andre Savelio gave them the two points.

Chester Butler crossed twice for valiant Fax, who impressed many with their performance.

In stark contrast to last week’s blistering first-half display against Catalans, the display before the break was riddled with mistakes and chances missed.

They did finally break through when Hiku scored for the fourth game in a row, taking in Jack Hughes’ pass to muscle his way over.

Fax, on the other hand, were not afraid to offload and use the short side and deserved the parity they earned at the break.

Having only previously been denied by a superb Declan Patton tackle, Butler snuck in behind Tom Lineham to touch down Simon Grix’s clever grubber kick.

Wire got the second half off to the perfect start when Hill stretched over despite pressure from the Fax defence.

However, the visitors were not done and Butler again embarrassed Lineham by ducking under his tackle to score in the corner and narrow Wolves’ lead to two points.

Russell then gave The Wire further breathing space by claiming Kevin Brown’s kick and somehow grounding the ball despite intense pressure.

Patton’s penalty gave Wolves a two-score lead, but Fax continued to ask questions of the home defence.

However, they tired in the final 10 minutes and the hosts took advantage when Savelio barged through to touch down in the final minute.
