ASHTON Sims has no doubt Warrington Wolves will put Saturday’s Super League Grand Final pain behind them to come back ‘bigger and better’ as his major trophy drought continues.

The 31-year-old prop was among those to slump to the Old Trafford deck following the final hooter in Manchester.

The veteran Aussie celebrated the League Leaders’ Shield last month as Wolves lifted it for only the second time in Super League history.

But he has not collected any major silverware despite playing at the top level for 13 years during his time with St George Illawarra, Brisbane and North Queensland in the NRL.

It was heartache for Sims in the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley at the end of August and he could not hide his anguish after another heavy blow following Saturday evening’s defeat.

He said: “It is a little bit harder to take once you get older but I have got full confidence in next year.

“It is tough. We had such a high with the League Leaders’ Shield but full credit to Wigan, their defence was great.

“We knew that was going to happen – it was probably two of the best defensive sides in the competition going up against each other.

“We knew it was going to be a dog fight, we knew it was going to be tough.

“But we will take a lot of things out of today and come back bigger and better next year.”

The squad will be spending much of the week together as they reflect on the result and Sims admits getting a taste of the Grand Final will drive him on to return next year.

He added: “There is a lot of hurt, there is no two ways about it but I had the opportunity to play on there – it makes me even hungrier to go on and win next time.

“It is a great feeling to go out there in a stadium like that.

“We are just looking to stick together to enjoy each other’s company and will probably reflect on a bit of the game and season. We are a really tight-knit club.

“We know we need to find that little bit extra for next year.”
