SIMON Grix has rejoined his hometown club Halifax in a part-time playing capacity.

The highly respected and model professional, released from his Wolves playing contract after a season on the sidelines through injury, will stay with Warrington in a performance role.

Grix has not featured since a fractured ankle against St Helens last September and has spent the end of this season on loan at Wakefield.

With Wolves, he will work mainly on strength and conditioning alongside Jon Clarke and Ben Stirling, while at lower-level Championship club Halifax on a one-year deal with a one-year option the 29-year-old back rower will seek to rebuild his playing career under former Wolves assistant boss Richard Marshall, who has been named Championship Coach of the Year.

He will also have a Testimonial campaign with Wolves in 2016, marking his 10 years with the club.

Wolves boss Tony Smith explained recently that Grix's rehabilitation from his 2014 injury is continuing and the former Ireland international has been waiting for a nerve to kick in, and until then he is not able to perform or train to the levels he needs to in Super League.

Marshall said on confirming Grix's return to Halifax: "Having someone like Simon in our organisation as a real positive. He’s a true leader on the field and an excellent professional off it.

“He had several other excellent options to consider but he has chosen to continue his career at Halifax RLFC of which we are delighted.

"I am really looking forward to working with Simon and I am sure he will add real quality to our squad for 2016."

Grix made his Warrington debut in 2006 after signing from Halifax, going on to make 179 appearances, including back-to-back Grand Finals at Old Trafford in 2012 and 2013, and crossing for 48 tries in the primrose and blue.
