FORMER Warrington Wolves star Garreth Carvell has announced his retirement from rugby league.

The 34-year-old, who won three Challenge Cups with The Wire, has decided to call time on his playing career due to the effects of injuries suffered throughout a 19-year career.

Prop Carvell played 135 times for Wolves, crossing for 18 tries, after arriving from Hull FC in 2009.

He left The Halliwell Jones Stadium in 2013, having also played representative rugby for England, Great Britain and Wales.

Carvell, who has featured for Featherstone Rovers this season, is currently player welfare manager at Salford Red Devils.
