WARRINGTON Wolves have added further to their squad for the 2016 season, but Tony Smith admits a place in this year's play-offs may now be out of his side's hands.

Jack Hughes, a second row or centre currently on loan at Huddersfield Giants from Wigan Warriors, joins Kurt Gidley and Tom Lineham as an arrival at Wolves next season.

Wolves sit four points behind tonight’s hosts Castleford Tigers and fourth-placed Huddersfield Giants with six Super 8s games remaining.

The Wire are boosted by the return of Ben Westwood from suspension as well as Ryan Atkins and Ben Harrison from injury, but will have to rely on other results going their way.

“It’s getting to that stage already where we’re having to rely not only on our results but other people’s results as well,” explained Smith.

“It’s not all in our hands, but we can take some of it in our own hands. That’s six games. We can have a say in those six games and then hope for other teams to not do so well.

“We’ll see how that goes, but we’re just focusing on our six games and hoping to perform well in each one of them.”

Gareth O’Brien and Toby King drop out of the 19-man squad, along with injured Anthony England, while Catalans-bound Richie Myler looks set to continue in the halves alongside new boy Chris Sandow.

“We’ve got six games to go and we want to win each one of them,” added Smith. “We want to perform well in each one of them, if we do that we’ve got a chance.

“We’re not building for next year at the moment, it’s all about 2015. To do anything else would be resignation we weren’t going to make it.”

And Smith is confident Westwood, who picked up a two-game ban on Wolves’ last visit to Castleford, can make a difference after successive losses in his absence since.

“Bennie was in great form, he makes a difference to any pack,” he said. “He’s a top class player and we’ve missed him for the past two weeks.

“There was a lot made of his tackle but it was really a lot to do with nothing. He’s served a price but he’s back and I’m sure he’ll be up for another good performance.

“He’s had a bit of frustration these couple of weeks watching but he’s keen to get back out and do a job for his team.

“He’ll be pretty motivated to put in a top class performance. I don’t think we’ll have to say too much other than just get out there and play your best rugby league and let everything else take care of itself.”

Wolves won the last meeting 44-6.

Smith added: "We were very committed in our defence last time and handled the conditions, but each time you go there is new.

"We’ve got no doubt it’s going to be a tough fixture for us once again and hostile in terms of reception."
