WARRINGTON Wolves have been warned by the RFL after a smoke canister was thrown onto the pitch during the Widnes Vikings clash in Easter.

Both sets of teams were taken from the pitch by referee Robert Hicks when the incident happened at the Select Security Stadium on April 2.

An RFL investigation discovered that Wolves fans also threw coins and bottles onto the playing surface Warrington were found to be in breach of RFL operational rules regarding improper conduct and misconduct of spectators.

An RFL statement said: "The club were reminded of their responsibility to make best efforts to ensure there are no further incidents at future matches."

The RFL said its investigation showed there was no breach of rules relating to spectator behaviour by Widnes.
