LEE Briers hailed the ‘never-say-die’ attitude that has seen his Warrington Wolves under 19s side reach the Academy Grand Final.

Wolves will enjoy home advantage in the competition’s showpiece event after tries from Jack Johnson, Tom Walker, George King, Joe Philbin, Toby King and Declan Kay sealed a dramatic win over St Helens on Saturday.

And Briers was delighted with the way his side fought back from an eight-point deficit on three occasions, including a late try five minutes into added time.

“The ‘never-say-die’ values that all of the squad have has certainly come to the fore,” he said.

“Even when we were eight points behind on a few occasions we didn’t panic and just continued to play our natural game.

“That was evident as the game went into injury time and we knew that we just needed one opportunity to snatch the win – the composure that we showed at the crucial time has seen us get home over a very good Saints side.”

Fellow head coach Danny Fullerton added: “I was delighted with the players’ efforts and attitude – it’s been the best all season.

“We fully deserved the result; we created enough opportunities to win the game a few times over and the defensive effort from the forwards was immense.”

The Grand Final will take place on Saturday, October 4 at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
