SUNDAY marked the end of an era for Warrington Wolves’ women’s team.
Their final game of the Betfred Women’s Super League campaign brought the curtain down on head coach Lee Westwood’s time in charge as he steps down to focus on other roles within the club.
A number of players were also playing their final games before retirement, with skipper Armani Sharrock and creative stalwart Michelle Davis hanging up their boots alongside forward Amy Daniels.
The campaign was rounded off by a 56-6 defeat at St Helens, meaning they finished the season fifth in the table following promotion last year.
Charlize Magraw scored the Wire’s only try as Saints proved just too strong for their visitors, with centre Paige Travis running in a hat-trick after opening the score as early as the fifth minute.
The final scoreline didn’t reflect the effort that Warrington put into the game against the Challenge Cup holders, more than holding their own defensively in parts and, perhaps with better decision-making near the try-line, could – and should - have scored more points.
Wolves: Samantha Simpson; Abigail Johnston, Emily Tandy, Katie Williams, Rebecca Nixon; Michelle Davis, Charlize Magraw; Emily Downs, Dani Bound, Amy Daniels, Georgia Westwood, Kacy Hayley, Abi Latchford. Subs: Kim Seddon, Claire Mullaney, Jenna Friery, Tina Milan
