WARRINGTON Wolves may have won five matches in a row but head coach Steve Price is expecting better performances to come from his team.

Catalans Dragons, Wakefield, Widnes, Castleford and now Salford have all been sent packing by The Wire as they have climbed to third spot on the Betfred Super League ladder.

But when asked if supporters are now starting to see the side he has wanted to mould since joining the club in October he said: “Not as yet.

“We’re slowly building towards that.

“We’re showing it in a lot of good areas and there’s some areas where we certainly understand we need to improve.

“There’s glimpses of it and we’re certainly heading in the right direction as a footy club.

“It’s only early days, still a lot of footy to be played. If we keep displaying good performances the big picture will take care of itself.

“The aim was four wins from four over the Easter block. It's a credit to the guys how hard they've been working.

“That was a tough game. Salford came to play and we had to earn the two points.”

VOTE FOR YOUR WIRE MAN OF THE MATCH AGAINST SALFORD

He would have liked to have seen his side kick on from taking the 14-0 lead inside 22 minutes at the AJ Bell Stadium yesterday but Salford got back into the fight and it made for a tense second half.

“At 14-0 we were a little bit clunky with our execution, especially on the try line for a couple of sets,” he said.

“I think 20-0 would have been a fair indication but Salford hung tough. It was a performance whereby we did what we had to do and the reward showed.

“At half time I asked the boys just to keep competing hard and to outwork the opposition.

“Salford were coming back over us in the latter part of the first half.

“Then we regained it back again. It was a very pleasing result, especially after losing Toby King early which meant we had to change our interchanges a touch.

“We got back into the groove and I thought Kevin Brown was outstanding defensively.

“What he was doing on and off the ball was what we’ve been striving for since November. About being tough and resilient. He showed that in spades. Just really happy for how Kev’s evolving.”

He continues to be pleased by Josh Charnley’s input since joining the club last month.

Charnley scored the second try and helped created the first one for Toby King, who was later replaced by Ryan Atkins due to a hamstring injury.

“He’s been terrific from when he came to our organisation,” said Price.

“He’s a really good guy, he’s a winner, he understands what it takes to be a team player and he’s showing that in spades.

“To pass that ball inside to Toby was fantastic for the first try. What he does on and off the ball is fantastic.

“He’s certainly a winner. He doesn’t like losing, he fights for every play, and every play-the-ball, every effort and that’s what we’re trying to grow in our footy club.”
