HAVING the chance to influence one of Super League’s big guns swayed Andrew Henderson’s decision to step down as London Broncos head coach and become number two to Steve Price at Warrington Wolves.

On the night of The Wire’s infamous 38-40 Qualifiers win at the Trailfinders Sports Club back in September, Henderson might not have imagined he would soon find himself in the opposition’s dugout.

But when Price was appointed Warrington Wolves’ head coach after Tony Smith’s reign came to an end, the former St George Illawarra Dragons boss sounded Henderson out to be his assistant.

The ex-Scottish international hooker said: “Me and Steve built up a little bit of a rapport earlier this year when Cronulla came over for the World Club Series and we did some training with them at London.

“The week after he was appointed as head coach, we had a couple of conversations on the phone and he was obviously happy with what he heard from me and offered me the position.

“It was a fantastic opportunity that was presented to me in the close season and I was very fortunate that London Broncos were obliging and allowed me to move on to pastures new.

“As much as I would have loved to have continued the fight in London, I was presented with this fantastic opportunity to go to the next level and take the next step in my coaching progression.

“I do like a challenge and I think Warrington are one of the biggest clubs in Super League – I know that didn’t show on the field last season but they are, and the opportunity to come here and have a real positive influence appealed to me.”
