TONY Smith hopes Wolves can “wind up while others wind down” as their 2017 season comes to a close.

The Wire play their penultimate game of a disappointing campaign tomorrow when they travel to Featherstone Rovers.

Victory would be their ninth in succession and Wolves are on course to equal their longest winning run in their history, which was 10 in the 2014 season.

However, Smith is well aware that several improvements, particularly in defence, need to be made for that to happen.

“I’ve relaxed for a couple of days but it’s been nice to get back into work and get on with it,” he said.

“Some teams may be winding down but we are trying to wind up still.

“Hopefully we can finish this week in a strong position and attack the last one as well.

“Our defence hasn’t been great. We’ve had spells where we’ve defended better and they have probably been some of our stronger performances, but overall our defence hasn’t been good enough.

“We’re hoping that, with some personnel changes and an injection of some more enthusiasm, we’ll be better than what we have been in the past few weeks.”
