MORE Wolves players are closing in on a return to action.
Matty Russell, Kevin Brown and Joe Westerman could all be back in contention for next Thursday’s home clash with Widnes Vikings.
“Matty is very close. He needs a few more runs under his belt in terms of training but he’s back running and over the symptoms of his injury,” said Smith.
“Kevin is doing his rehab running now because he’s had tendon damage in his foot.
“The initial part of it was for that to settle down. It stopped him from running, he had to do alternative training, but he’s back running now and progressing well.
“He may be available next week, we’ll have to see.
“Joe is about a week off as well. He’d been hampered by a hip flexor problem, the tendon on his hip, for a while.
“It got to the stage where it was affecting his gait and you then run into worries of other injuries. He needed a break.”
Smith said Dom Crosby could also be back in selecion consideration in a couple of weeks.
“Kevin Penny played with Rochdale at the weekend and will again this week," he added.
“Sam Wilde, Jack Johnson and Will Dagger are all available. Will will play in the under 19s on Saturday now that he’s back after injury.”
