TONY Smith says Ben Pomeroy is keen to make an impression at Wolves to secure his future in the game.

The 33-year-old centre joined from French side Lezignan Sangliers last month and is set to make his Wire debut against Leigh Centurions tonight.

Pomeroy is set to start at right centre, with Peta Hiku moving out to the right wing as he makes his home debut.

Having signed a contract until the end of the season, the Australian has a maximum of 10 games to earn a new deal with the club or elsewhere.

Ben Westwood, Dec Patton and Tom Lineham are also set to return for The Wire at The Halliwell Jones Stadium tonight.

“Ben Pomeroy is ultra-keen to get out there as he’s looking for a contract for next year,” he said.

“He wants to put himself in the shop window and play as well as he can to get a contract.

“Bennie Westwood has been out for a while so he’ll be really keen as well.

“With Tommy and Dec coming back as well, it gives us plenty of options.”

Defeat for The Wire tonight, coupled with a Huddersfield victory over Widnes, will confirm their place in the Middle 8s with two regular round games remaining.

However, Smith says the players are only concentrating on the here and now.

“Our focus is on Leigh this week and coming out on top,” he said.

“They are a decent team that have had some inconsistencies in their play.

“We understand the dangers they bring, it is about us doing the best we can.”
