BEN Westwood says Wolves are “wary” of their position in Super League as they prepare to welcome unbeaten Wigan to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Following Saturday’s 24-14 defeat to Salford Red Devils, The Wire sit bottom of Super League having lost all three of their league games this season.

However, Westwood says there is no need to panic just yet and believes the game against Shaun Wane’s side has come at a good time.

“We’re a bit wary of where we are at the minute but we will turn it around,” he said.

“It’s definitely not time to press the panic button yet, we’ll be there or thereabouts. It’s Round Three, there’s plenty of football still in us.

“It’s early days yet, there’s still plenty of games to go so we’ll be alright.

“The game has come at a perfect time for us, it’s hard not to be up for this game and determined to put in a good performance.

“It’s a good time for Wigan to come and hopefully we can get the two points we desperately need.”

The 35-year-old was used from the bench at the AJ Bell Stadium in a defeat that sealed Wolves’ worst start to a Super League season since 2009.

Tony Smith’s side led at half-time, but succumbed to another defeat and Westwood admits the performance left a lot to be desired.

“We just weren’t good enough with the ball. We made some stupid errors and there was some dumb plays,” he said.

“Salford played really well to be honest and deserved the victory.

“The Brisbane game should have spurred our season on and we should have taken confidence and a bit of a bounce from it but it hasn’t happened like that.

“We’ve proven this year that when we do complete and cut out the errors, we are a tough team to beat.

“We’re not there at the minute and we’ve got a lot of hard work ahead of us to get back there.”
