THERE could be a few unfamiliar names appearing for Wolves in tomorrow’s festive friendly against Widnes Vikings.

Tony Smith’s side travel to the Select Security Stadium for the annual Christmas meeting with their near neighbours and the Wire boss has named the usual mix of first-team, reserve and academy players in a 24-man squad.

Smith spoke quite keenly about Ryan Jones, an outside back who used to be on the books at Leeds Rhinos.

“We’ve got Ryan Jones training with us full-time and he will probably get a run out,” he said.

“He’s still very green and raw but he’s a real speedster and an exciting prospect.”

Another new name is Lewis Hatton, who is part of the club’s reserve set-up having played for Salford’s academy last season.

Prop forward Pat Moran signed his first professional contract with Wolves during the 2016 season but is yet to make a senior appearance.

The same can be said of Joe Ryan, a reserve team prop who was called up to the squad for May’s Challenge Cup tie with Oldham but did not make the match-day 17.
