HEAD coach Adam Fletcher says January is “a massive month” in Lymm’s bid for promotion from the Northern Premier.

Ahead of the resumption of fixtures on Saturday, Lymm sit third in the table, with the league leaders gaining automatic promotion and the second-placed side going into a play-off.

Fletcher’s men visit Sandal on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm, but Preston Grasshoppers and Hull, the two sides immediately above them, meet at the same time and the Lymm coach says there will be more than half an eye on that result.

“We said in the summer that, if we stay healthy, we’ll have a shot,” he told the Guardian.

“It’s about momentum and we’ve got that. Preston, Hull and Rossendale have all got to come to Lymm.

“January is a massive month; we play Sandal, Hull are away at Preston.

“If we can get five points, the gap will close whatever the result of the Preston-Hull game.

“We’re taking it one game at a time, but if you look at the fixtures in January, it is a big month for us.

“We’re not overconfident, but we’re in a good position and we’re going to have a real go.

Two more of the town’s rugby union sides are also in good positions as the season resumes following its Christmas break.

Warrington sit fourth in the North One West, while Eagle are currently second in the Lancs/Cheshire Division Three North.

“Rugby union in the town as a whole is in a good place,” Fletcher said.

“I’m in contact a lot with Andy Roberts at Warrington and they are sitting very well-placed.

“Like us, they’ve got a great shot to grab a play-off place.

“It is a rugby league town, but we’ve got plenty to be excited about.”

Warrington welcome Burnage to Walton Lea Road on Saturday while Eagle travel to Ashton-under-Lyne.

Both games start at 2.15pm.
