A STRONG comeback helped Eagle turn promising recent performances into a 21-17 victory over Vagabonds victory on Saturday.
A delay to kick-off at Thornton Road initially seemed to rattle them as Isle of Man-based visitors raced out of the blocks, scoring two early tries to take a 12-0 lead.
However, after some changes in defensive set-up, the hosts came roaring back and took control of the game.
Danny Cahill’s side reduced the arrears when Lloyd Feather crossed, with Jay Jackson adding a conversion.
Eagle dominated after the break, and finally took the lead when a powerful rolling maul led to James Tickle bundling his way over for a try that was once again converted by Jackson.
Feather crossed for a second time after superb work from the backs, with Jackson adding the extras, as Eagle held on for a victory despite a late try from the visitors that secured for them a losing bonus point.
Despite their second victory of the season, Eagle remain bottom of the South Lancs/Cheshire Division Two table, seven points adrift of neighbours Moore.
Cahill’s men do not have a game scheduled this weekend, meaning they must wait for a chance to record back-to-back wins.
They are now not in action until a trip to Port Sunlight on Saturday, January 28.
