Warrington 34 Broughton Park 8

WARRINGTON showed glimpses of their early season form with a big win over Broughton Park on Saturday.

With a virtually full-strength side out, the home side opened the scoring when Luke Johnstone took an exquisite line to slice through the defence and touch down under the posts, with Darren Norman adding the extras.

Norman’s penalty extended the lead before Nathan Beesley found the supporting run of Ben Hockenhull, who scored to make it 17-0 after just 15 minutes.

Another Norman penalty put Warrington in full command before Beesley got a try of his own, using his pace to score under the posts after Keiron Hughes had made the initial break.

The conversion from Norman made it 27-0, but the visitors finally got themselves up and running after the break with a penalty.

However, the fourth try wasn’t long in coming for Warrington as Beesley broke before passing on to Hughes, who unselfishly offloaded for Tom Wood to stroll over and secure a bonus point.

The visitors did have the last word with a catch-and-drive try, but it was to be Warrington’s day.
