Vale of Lune 38 Warrington 0

A MUCH changed Warrington team got a close-up look of Vale of Lune's improved form in the second half of the North One West season.

Trailing 19-0 going into a second half without the influential Max Walker - and then being reduced to 13 men for a spell - proved too much of a mountain to climb against clinical hosts.

With Danny Aboushakra making his debut at number six, veteran coach Andy Roberts coming out of retirement at 10 and Sean Yoxhall starting for the first time since returning from travels to the Antipodes, Warrington started the game well.

They dominated the early exchanges, playing all the rugby in the Vale half.

However, final passes were not quite going to hand, support play was lacking and Vale started to show some excellent attacking rugby, making the most of some weak Warrington defence to scored two quickfire tries.

Warrington were still a threatening force with counter-attacking rugby but as the odds raised they struggled to compete with a confident Vale side that took their chances well to run out comfort winners.

Roberts said: "There was a huge amount of enthusiasm and effort from a very young squad who will learn a lot from this experience.

"However we lacked that clinical edge and the confidence that got us through the first half of the season and we must get better at taking our opportunities and turning possession into points.”

Warrington head to promotion contenders Kirkby Lonsdale on Saturday.
