WARRINGTON Rowing Club were facing competition on two fronts this weekend as they sent a contingent to the Fours Head of River event on the Thames and to the Northwich Autumn Head Race.

The club’s own Olympic hopeful Richard Egington was in action in London and recorded the fastest overall time of the day along with his elite coxed four teammates.

Warrington oarsman, Tom Pearson, currently rowing with Imperial College, was third in his Quad Sculls category, while junior Frankie Sinnott, racing in the girls’ composite Warrington/Runcorn Rowing Club quad sculls crew, was also third.

In the masters event on the Sunday, Gaël Tavernier, racing in a composite Warrington/Runcorn/X-Press and Rob Roy took second place overall in the women’s intermediate quad.

In Northwich the juniors flew the flag brilliantly, with Pippa Curran and the junior intermediate squad scooping several medals.

Curran took the first of her two winners medals of the day in the girls J14 single sculls with Elle McLoughlin close behind in second.

J14 boys double sculls of Kieran McCormick and James Walsh also came in first.

The success continued in the lunchtime division with the girls J14 quad sculls of Ayesha Wooler, Pippa Curran, Elle McLoughlin, Megan Dunbavand and cox Holly Robinson taking first place.

Ayesha Wooler and Megan Dunbavand doubled their winners’ medal tally in the double sculls, with the crews of Lucy Stanhope and Hannah Bushell, and Katie Shard and Jess Swindells in pursuit.

The club is next in competitive action on Saturday, December 3, at the Liverpool Victoria Rowing Club Head of the Float,in the old West Float docks in Wallasey.
