GREAT Britain’s youngsters have won an international roller hockey tournament – and a Warrington lad was at the heart of it all.

Eight-year-old Henry Pearson from Great Sankey was chosen for the GB under eights team to compete in the Sparta Cup, which was held in Spain and featured teams from all over the world.

Playing as a netminder, Henry had the distinction of not letting a single goal past him during the whole tournament.

In front of him, his teammates scored 79 goals as they went unbeaten to bring home the gold medal.

“The team was incredible, the players he had in front of him played with huge maturity and skill,” Henry’s proud mum Emma said.

“He couldn’t have done this without the team of players he had in front of him playing the way they did – it was a real team effort the whole way through.

“He works incredibly hard with all his coaches at ice and roller hockey, training 3-4 times a week and playing games at weekends.

“His coaches are all incredibly supportive and he's very lucky to have them.”
