WARRINGTON Hockey Club men’s second team made the most of their ‘double header’ by recording two victories to stretch their winning run to five matches.

On Saturday, they had to work hard for their 3-1 victory over Runcorn’s thirds, their second game in the space of three days.

Despite the absence of some key players, man of the match Jake Galvin led Warrington to a significant victory.

Gavin Brown and a Mark Hooper penalty put them 2-0 up at the break, while Matt Petitt scored a third before Runcorn added a consolation at the end.

That came after a more convincing 5-0 victory over Neston on Thursday evening, which featured a hat-trick from Andy Gould.

Brown and Noal Philpotts were the other goalscorers under the floodlights for Warrington.

Elsewhere, the men’s firsts came out on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline in an end-to-end game against University of Liverpool.

Ben Vickers scored twice, but Warrington were beaten despite creating plenty of chances.

The women’s first team also played two fixtures, but slipped to defeat in both games without scoring a goal.

They lost 4-0 away at Rhyl before a 3-0 home defeat to Oxton, while the women’s seconds also had a bad day as they were beaten 6-1 by Triton.

On Saturday, the men's first team are in action at Priestley College as they host Bolton's seconds, push back 2.15pm, while the seconds travel to Llandudno for a 3.30pm start.

The women's firsts host Deeside Ramblers' seconds, push back 12.45pm, and the seconds visit Brooklands Poynton, 3pm start.
