LYMM runner Harriet Knowles-Jones, who produced an incredible run in the English National Cross Country Relays on Saturday, is on the short list for the Athletics Weekly Under 20s Women’s Athlete of the Year.

Warrington Athletics Club's Knowles-Jones, who is one of eight in the running, continues to go from strength to strength.

Over the past 11 months she has won a bronze medal in the European Cross Country Championships and gold in the National Cross Country Championships.

Then on the track she collected bronze in the 1,500m at the World Under 20s Championships and smashed her personal best time for the 3,000m with 8mins 56.08secs, which gained her selection for Great Britain at the European Team Championships.

Her excellent form has continued in recent weeks, helping the Warrington AC women's under 2s team to gold in the English National Cross Country Relays at Berry Hill Park in Mansfield.

Katie Lowery ran 8mins 39.55secs over the first leg to hand over in fifth place, 10 seconds behind the leaders.

Lauren Ferris held on to fifth spot with 9mins 00.30secs, trailing Blackheath and Bromley by 45 seconds.

Knowles-Jones took up the mantle and stormed through the field and passed the last runner as she approached the finishing straight.

Her time, 8mins 12.00secs, was fastest of the day and more than 17 seconds better than the next best.

Warrington men’s under 20s finished 32nd, with Luke Gamble clocking 10mins 00.60secs, Daniel Fox 10mins 17.85secs and Jack Stubbings 9mins 50.20secs.

In the under 13s girls race, Warrington placed 50th courtesy of Orla Gregory 7mins 50.85secs, Molly Wormald 9mins 00.30secs and Maisie Bell 8 mins 51.75secs.

Four Warrington Athletic Club runners who took part in the Cheshire 10k Road Race at Antrobus on Saturday were led home by Jack Green in seventh place in a personal best 33mins 16secs.

Jack’s dad Andy was 36th in 36mins 44secs to take first place in the over 50s age group, with Mervyn Ward finishing in 110th place in 40mins 35secs claim second in the over 60s rankings.

Emma Pryor, ninth woman over 35, crossed the line 341st place in 47mins 2secs.

David Gill won the over 60s category of the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k Road Race at the weekend, placing 452nd overall in 37mins 39secs.
