EUROPEAN bronze medallist Harriet Knowles-Jones was in imperious form as she triumphed at the North of England Cross Country Championships.

One of a number of Warrington Athletics Club runners competing at Knowsley Safari Park, she crossed the line 63 seconds clear of Middlesbrough’s Philippa Stone in the under 20s women’s race after moving into the lead towards the end of the first of two laps.

Recent Great Edinburgh Cross Country junior race winner Harriet Knowles-Jones is on a roll and will receive support from the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund this year to help with equipment, specialist training and travel.

Clubmates Alysha Goddard, 36th, and Jasmin Dobson, 40th, completed the team finishing one place outside the medals.

Also unlucky to miss out on a medal was Joe Buckley in the under 15s boys’ event.

He moved up from sixth to fourth place over the final kilometre, leading home Jordan Jones, 34th, and Isaaq Ataullah, 86th.

Fifth place was achieved by the under 17s men, with Sam Rostron, 21st, ahead of Luke Gamble, 25th, Jack Stubbings, 30th, and Jack Wadsworth, 70th.

At under 17s women’s level, Lauren Ferris was 17th with Lauren Goddard, 34th, and Amy Nuttall, 64th, while Siobhan Gregory led home the under 15s team in 81st place, with Olivia Doodson, 96th, Natalie Chamun, 157th, Fay Humphreys, 175th, and Isla Kenworthy, 178th, seeing the team to 20th spot.

In the under 13s girls’ race, for which the Warrington competitors will still qualify by age next year, the team finished 16th with Orla Gregory 77th, Eva Ferris, 112th, Maisie Bell, 114th, Hannah McClorey, 161st, Isobel Houghton, 184th, Abby Hills, 192nd, and Nicole Eastburn, 196th. Eastburn ran three quarters of the race with only one shoe, while Hills was making her club debut.

Rhys Hopkins came home 105th in the under 13s boys’ race, with Reece Connell, 171st, and Gareth McClorey, 187th, while Chris Fance was 58th under 20s men finisher.
