NORTH Cheshire Clarion can celebrate the end of a hugely successful cyclocross season.

The Warrington-based club’s 2016 campaign has come to an end, with the last North West Cyclocross Association (NWCCA) race held in Macclesfield.

The Macclesfield Supacross is a firm Christmas favourite in the Cyclocross calendar, with Paralympic legend Dame Sarah Storey joining in the fun in her first cyclocross race alongside 16 North Cheshire Clarion junior riders and eight adult club riders.

Clarion rider Sebastian Grindley, aged 10, stormed to a definitive victory in the under 12s boys' race in a field of 33 young riders, while 11-year-old Hannah McClorey finished in second place in the under 12s girls' contest.

Cyclocross has really taken off among club members this season, with 32 North Cheshire Clarion riders turning out to compete at one of the events in October.

The club also organised its own event for the first time in 2016, at Stadt Moers Park in Merseyside, with more than 330 riders competing.

The club are now on the hunt for a venue in the Warrington area to host another cyclocross event in the autumn or winter of 2017, and would be interested to hear from any willing landowners or local parks that may be able to help.
