PHILLIP and George Jennings stood out among the Warrington and District Motor Club competitors as the Neil Howard Stages Rally brought the curtain down on the race season at Oulton Park.

Through fast and consistent driving on a chilly but clear day they kept their 2.8 litre BMW Compact running throughout the event in contrast to around a third of all entries.

And by reaching the finish line without incurring penalties or damage, they clinched 39th place out of 90 starters.

That performance saw them finish ninth in their class.

Next best was Stephen Ellison and Mark Carter in their Ford Escort RS in 47th, which secured them 18th spot in class.

Co-driver Patricia Davies, with Steven Bright from Bolton, finished 49th overall and 19th in class.

Also rallying were the Warrington club members Matthew Steadman (driver), Jamie Sparks (his co-driver) and Stephen Landen (co-driver) but they all retired due to mechanical issues.

The rally was run over several ‘stages’ of varying degrees of difficulty, including features like tarmac, mud and chicanes.
