WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s runners impressed during Saturday’s North West Counties Road Relays at Delamere Forest.

They collected bronze medals in the under 17s girls and under 15s boys categories respectively.

A third gong, silver in colour, went to their under 11s girls following a non-championship race.

Lauren Ferris, taking over from Elizabeth Wright, anchored the under 17s girls to third place after Amy Nuttall had ran the sixth fastest split in the field – completing a 3.2km leg in 13mins 22secs – at the start.

A second Warrington trio - Melissa Boyer, Lauren Goddard and Isabelle Trevithick - ranked seventh.

For the under 15s boys, Joe Buckley rose from outside of the top 10 to sixth before handing over to Jordan Jones.

He timed 11mins 52secs for the final leg – third fastest for the age group on the day – to secure third place behind winners Vale Royal Athletics Club and runners-up Preston Harriers.

Isaaq Ataullah completed the line-up.

Warrington’s under 11s girls team, including Molly Wormald, Amelia Smithers and Lucie Davies, occupied second spot from start to finish.

The former, who stopped the clock at the end of the first leg in six mins 37secs, ran the third quickest leg in the field.

Daniel Fox, Jack Sturridge and Sam Rostron made up an under 17s boys entry that narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth overall.

Fox was eighth at the end of the first leg before Sturridge gained another place in the second.

Rostron rose to fourth by the close in 25mins 18 secs.

Eva Ferris, Ashley Nemits and Rebecca Nixon classified inside the top 10 in the under 13s girls’ race, while India Hayes, Olivia Doodson and Lucia Meloni were seventh in the under 15s girls’ category.

A senior men’s quartet of Chris Fance, Jack Green, Nick Jones and Andrew Green were 10th.
