LUCY Glover’s selection this week for the world championships in The Netherlands caps off the most successful season in history at junior level for Warrington Rowing Club.
Glover will contest with Great Britain the quadruple scull event at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Rotterdam between August 21 and 28.
Two other members of Warrington’s squad successfully teamed up to represent England at the Home Countries Regatta in Cardiff at the weekend.
On waters contained in the Cardiff Barrage, Pippa Curran and Lucy Stanhope raced to victory in the junior double scull.
The pair, who earned their international call-up by winning the recent British Championships, fended off teams that had been training hard specifically for this event.
Coach Richard Sinnott said: “Pippa and Lucy executed their favourite race plan and shot out into an early lead, putting plenty of pressure on their three opponents.
“By the halfway point they were well established in the lead and their total dominance allowed them to paddle into the finish.”
Sinnott added: “This was a great way for these two fine athletes to finish their rowing at Warrington as they will both move on to new opportunities at university next year.”
n Warrington Rowing Club stage their annual regatta on the River Mersey adjacent to Kingsway Bridge on Saturday.
