IT was a productive Cheshire Schools’ Cross Country Championships for Warrington Athletics Club runners, scooping five gold medals.

Most Warrington AC athletes were competing for the Warrington district, although the club also had representatives for South Cheshire and Mid Cheshire.

Ashley Nemits, Sam Evans, Lauren Ferris and Jack Stubbings finished first for Warrington in their respective races, with South Cheshire’s Katie Lowery also taking gold.

There were silver medals for Rebecca Nixon, Amy Nuttall and Jasmin Dobson, while Joe Buckley earned a bronze.

First up at Knights Grange in Winsford was the minor girls’ race, with Nemits and Nixon followed home by Rosie Ratcliffe and Sasha Lang in 37th and 52nd place respectively.

Lucia Meloni was first home for Warrington in the juniors in 13th, followed by Rebecca Hardwick, 28th, Lily Ward, 30th, Emily Jackson, 32nd, Fay Humphries, 36th, and Natalie Chamun, 41st.

Evans and Buckley took first and third in the boys’ race, backed up by Jordan Jones in seventh, Lucas Hayes, 13th, Joe Scutt, 21st, Isaaq Ataullah, 26th, Joe Roberts, 27th, Mid Cheshire’s Toby Abbott, 35th, Matthew Quayle, 37th, Alex Allen, 39th, and Liam Nemits, 41st.

In the intermediate age group, Ferris and Nuttall were followed by Lauren Goddard in sixth, Isabelle Trevithick in seventh and Chloe Mason in ninth.

Stubbings took the boys’ gold medal, while in the seniors Lowery and Dobson took first and second for the girls with Daniel Evans finishing fourth in the boys’ event.
