Golborne Parkside 32 Woolston Rovers A 18

WOOLSTON Rovers A were defeated at high-flying Golborne Parkside despite giving a very good account of themselves in the NWML Division Two on Saturday.

Golborne opened the scoring after four minutes with a try from second row Nathan Currie that was converted by loose forward Nathan Bell and then thirteen minutes later fellow second row Stuart Johnson burrowed over in the left corner.

Rovers hit back on twenty-five minutes when straight from a scrum on the halfway line hooker Harry Files went blind and found scrum half Dominic Ball who sent full back Shane Duffy racing 50 metres down the wing to score wide out on the left.

D Ball converted and then almost immediately a long kick downfield from stand-off Ryan Brown saw winger Martin Ball chase superbly to win the chase to the ball and he put second row Dan Fearnley over under the posts.

D Ball converted to give Rovers a 12-10 lead.

Four minutes before the break Golborne hit the front once again when a strong drive from Currie paved the way for prop forward Ross Pendlebury to score at the side of the posts.

Bell converted to give Parkside a 16-12 half time advantage.

The home side extended their lead eleven minutes into the second half when Pendlebury powered over on the right but Rovers responded immediately when Brown found touch from the restart and from the scrum the ball reached centre Danny Garcia O’Brien who forced his way over at the side of the posts.

D Ball converted to narrow the gap to just two points.

Just after the hour mark Golborne pulled clear once when Johnson spotted a gap and raced 70 metres to score a try at the left of the posts.

Bell converted and then three minutes from time Johnson went over for his hat trick.

Bell added the conversion to give his side a hard fought 32-18 win.

Best for Rovers were Ryan Brown, Harry Files, Dominic Ball and Danny Griffiths.
