WARRINGTON Athletics Club duo Carys McAulay and Harriet Knowles-Jones will get their World Youth Games campaigns underway in Colombia today, Thursday.
Representing Great Britain in Cali, Knowles-Jones will runs in the girls’ 1,500m heats at 5.25pm, followed by McAulay in the girls’ 800m heats half an hour later.
Should she qualify, then McAulay will contest a semi-final on Saturday morning, due to take place at 12.55am GMT, while if Knowles-Jones progresses the 17-year-old will race again in the final at 1.35am on Sunday.
Should McAulay, also 17, make the 800m final she returns later in the day at 10.05pm.
Coach Phil Hicken is confident the Scottish-born athlete can make the final.
He said: “That's the aim.
"Carys is ranked seventh in the world, so to get there would be an achievement.”
