WARRINGTON seconds beat Congleton by five wickets after bowling the hosts out for 123 on Saturday in the Second XI Division One.

On winning the toss Warrington inserted the home side and used their attack well, with Rishav Manta, 4 for 11, Paul Whelan, 3 for 20, and skipper Sy Hewitt, 3 for 21, sharing the spoils.

Warrington made a steady approach to the home side's total with an early foundation from James Lewis, 27, and Tim Rothwell, 23, enabling Sam Pennington, 37 not out, to attack the bowling and gain victory in 38 overs.

Warrington's seconds witnessed 13-year-old Alister Begg, 60, make his first senior half-century in a draw with Chester BH fourths.

Brad Roden's unbeaten 30 helped the hosts to 228 for 7.

A controlled spell of 4 for 27 from Mans Naseem helped Warrington fourths to a seven-wicket win at Wilmslow Wayfarers.

With support from Wes Charlton, 2 for 37, the hosts ended on 177 for 9. In reply, Dom Hastings, 69, and Arshan Dadrualla, 32, helped Warrington to 179 for 3.

Grappenhall seconds began their Division One campaign with a resounding victory at Sale.

Looking to bounce back to the Premier Division at the first time of asking, the hosts dismissed Sale for 135 with newcomer Scott Woodland taking 3 for 35 and skipper Matt Titchard wrapping up the innings with 4 for 3.

Grappers got off to a good start with Tom Hulme and Matt Brown putting 50 on the board early, but they both then fell and the rest of the batsmen made hard work of the small total.

The hosts finally crawled home with six overs to spare to win by four wickets.

Grappenhall thirds opened with a T20 Cup mini league win over Knutsford.

A youthful bowling attack made early inroads, Arron McCabe with four wickets, as Knutsford fell for 59 before Grappers coasted home for the loss of three wickets.
