WARRINGTON Athletics Club returned from the North of England Indoor Championships in Sheffield with four medals.

Carys McAuley was the top Warrington performer claiming gold, with Lizzie Smith scooping both silver and bronze medals, while Cameron Meakin won bronze.

Seventeen-year-old McAulay opted to run in the senior 800m rather than the under 20s age group and comfortably qualified from her heat, finishing second in 2mins 15.22secs.

In the final she settled into third place following the pace set by English Commonwealth Games steeplechaser Rachael Bamford.

McAulay produced a superb final-lap chase to storm to victory in a personal best time of 2mins 9.20secs.

Smith collected the silver medal in the 1500m with a time of 5mins 15.32secs before adding a bronze medal to her collection.

She finished her under 20s women’s 800m heat in second place in 2mins 22.22secs and ran the final in 2mins 23.78secs to seal third place.

Meakin collected the bronze medal in the under 17s men’s 60m hurdles with a new personal best time of 8.61secs.

He also competed in the 60m, finishing second in his heat with a season’s best time of 7.45secs before going out in the semi-final.

Also running in the 60m was Fisayo Williamson-Taylor, who finished third in his heat in 7.43secs.

Williamson-Taylor then came second in his semi-final in a new personal best of 7.36secs, which he repeated in the final to finish fourth and narrowly miss out on the bronze medal.

He returned for the 200m, winning his heat in a new personal best indoor time of 23.47secs.

In his semi-final he came in third place in 23.76secs, before taking fourth overall in 23.68secs.

In the under 20s men’s 800m Matt Wigelsworth qualified from his heat, winning in 1min 58.79secs, but was unable to improve on his time in the final, finishing fifth.
