WARRINGTON men’s hockey second team shot up to second place in Division Eight with a 7-1 win over Liverpool Sefton.

Richard Taylor found the back of the net from two well-worked short corners while Molloy Dias continued his scoring streak and Matt Ratcliffe recorded his first ever goal for the club.

Mike Vickers completed his hat-trick with an outstanding team goal which started when Scott McCue won the ball in midfield and made an incisive pass to Gavin Brown who set up Vickers for a finish on his reverse side.

While the second team were celebrating climbing the table, the men’s first team slipped down from second in the league after they lost a frustrating game 3-4 at Bolton.

Tom Yates scored twice and Mike Jones once, but it wasn’t enough for them to recover from a slow start to the match.

Lymm Ladies also won by a comfortable six-goal margin on Saturday against third-placed Bowdon thirds.

It was an even opening few minutes but with Lymm’s first attack the league leaders carved out an opening to play in Alex Pepper who drove into the D and finished past the ‘keeper.

Meg Wilkin gave Lymm a two-goal cushion at half time before Lisa Hartley-Woodrow kept up the momentum after the restart.

Another fast-paced break ended with Lymm gaining a penalty flick which was dispatched by Hollie Acklam.

A full length dive at the oncoming keeper saw Weston find the crucial touch to slot home and Ellie Anderson rounded off the scoring in the last minute for a 6-0 victory.
