Workington 1 Warrington Town 1

PAUL Carden says a draw was a fair result as his Yellows side made the long and notoriously difficult trip to Workington on Tuesday night.

Warrington led at half time through Tony Gray's strike, but James Earl’s equaliser secured the Reds a point.

While stressing his side had the better chances and questioning whether or not Earl meant his equalising goal, Carden says a point is a good result for his side.

"I would have taken a draw before the game and I think, on the balance of play, it is a fair result," he said.

"What we saw was two very fit sides who both had spells of control in the game.

"We had more clear cut chances. They put us under pressure with a lot of crosses, particularly near the end, but I was pleased with how we defended our box.

"I don't think their lad means to put his goal in the top corner. I think it was meant to be a cross.

"Sean Williams asked him if he meant it after the game and he said no, so that's a bit frustrating.

"It is a good point, especially given our record against them last season.  "Workington is a tough place to go. We knew how good a side they were despite the fact they hadn't been getting results.

"They had too many good players not to cause a threat, so the point we have gained could turn out to be a big one for us."

Both sides started quickly, with Caleb Richards testing home keeper Aaron Taylor.

However, Yellows took the lead when Liam Goulding’s cross from the right found Gray and he fired in low on the turn.

Sadly, though, Carden’s men could not hold on and Earl equalised 10 minutes after the break when he curled an effort from outside the area beyond Tony McMillan.

Connor Tinnion sent a fizzing effort just wide as the hosts pushed for a winner, but Yellows held on for a share of the spoils.
