WARRINGTON Town are not distracting themselves with thoughts of a long FA Cup run, winger Connor Hughes says.

Yellows kick off their cup campaign in the first qualifying round this afternoon when they welcome Grimsby Borough to Cantilever Park.

The visitors ply their trade in the Northern Counties East Football League, three tiers below Town, so Paul Carden’s side will be heavy favourites to progress and win their first FA Cup match since their famous 1-0 first-round triumph over Exeter City in 2014.

However, Hughes says he and his teammates are expecting nothing but a tough game.

“Everybody loves a good underdog story in the FA Cup, but this is one where we’re not underdogs,” he said.

“Obviously it would be fantastic for the fans and the players if we could go on a long cup run, but we’re not getting too carried away.

“Our mindset will be the same as every game we’ve played this season. We want to go out there and do a professional job.

“As a squad, we’re under no illusions. We know this will be a very tough game for us but hopefully we can go out and win.”

Kick off at Cantilever Park is at 3pm.
