CHILDREN from a Warrington school want to go a step further next year after tasting playing football on a Premier League ground.

Ravenbank Primary School’s year three football team featured in the Road to Goodison Grand Finals at Everton’s Goodison Park.

After winning qualifying events at Priestley College in Warrington and Everton’s Finch Farm training ground they lost in their semi final but won the third-place play-off contest in what has been their first competition as a team.

Ben Sutcliffe, the school’s PE co-ordinator, said: “At each stage of the competition they have worked hard as a team and have produced some excellent results.

“As a school, we are extremely proud of their efforts and the attitude they have shown to get this far in the competition.

“In their semi-final fixture, the team played some wonderful football and had chances to take the lead but unfortunately the team couldn’t convert them and they ended up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline.

“They went into the third-place play-off eager to impress all their family and friends from year three who had come to watch them.

“Ravenbank took an early lead. There were many chances from both sides but after some inspired defending, particularly from defender and captain, Alfie Kelly, Ravenbank held on.

“The team were delighted to have progressed so far in the competition and said they would never forget the experience of playing in a stadium in front of so many fans, including their family and school friends, cheering them on.

“They can’t wait for next year when they are going to try even harder and hope to take the trophy home instead!”
