WOOLSTON Rovers under 10s football team have retained the Egerton Trophy.

They beat hosts Egerton 4-0 in a repeat of last year’s final.

Defenders Mathew Reeves and Leyton McConkey were calm under initial Egerton pressure before the Woolston midfield took control.

Luke Urey’s fine defence-splitting pass set up Philip Perry to beat one defender and send a ‘bullet’ left-foot strike into the far corner of the net for the opener.

Perry added a second, with Harry Dignam-Smith and Jack Roberts also notching.

Rovers won all eight of their tournament matches, scoring 18 goals while only conceding once.

They faced a strong Woolton Power team from Liverpool in the semi finals, going through 1-0.
