RYLANDS boosted their hopes of promotion from the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division Two with a nervy two-wicket win over Knutsford.

The rain played its part in the game as the hosts lost the toss and were asked to field first, but the Rylands bowlers got off to a great start at Gorsey Lane.

Richard Buck and Sam Sparks were the stars as Knutsford were never allowed to generate any momentum.

Sparks finished with 4-26, while Buck ended with 2-18 from his 11 overs as the visitors were restricted to 120-7 from 40 overs.

Chasing a meagre total, Rylands were favourites but lost wickets at regular intervals to make the chase a nervy one.

Buck and Andy Thomas both contributed before Matthew Brady steered his side to victory.

Their next game is a trip to Old Parkonians on Saturday.
