GLAZEBURY suffered an agonising defeat on Saturday as their batting let them down in a four-run loss to promotion-chasing Wistaton.

After winning the toss and electing to bat at Hurst Lane, the visitors would have hoped to rack up an imposing total but they did not bank on Glazebury skipper Sam Stanier being in superlative form.

He tore through the visiting batting line-up on his way to remarkable figures of 8-27, with only opposite number Jack Stokes resisting for Wistaton with an unbeaten 32 as they were dismissed for just 104.

The bowling effort ensured Glazebury were comfortable favourites to win the game, but the visitors fought back with the ball and quickly reduced the hosts to 22-4.

A partnership of 47 between Ian Black and Tom Wilkinson seemed to get Glazebury back on track, but Wilkinson fell for 24 before Black was the eighth man out for 32.

The hosts were eventually bowled out for 100 in what was a painstaking loss.

Batting was also an issue for the seconds, who fell to a six-wicket defeat at Bowdon Vale.

Having lost the toss, Glazebury had first use of the wicket and Jordan Carroll anchored the innings with a score of 30, but found support hard to come back as they were bowled out for just 111.

Carroll then took two wickets with the ball but the hosts reached their target easily.
