WARRINGTON clinched the Cheshire County League Division Two title thanks to a final-day victory at home to Northwich.

The home side hit 167 for 8, having already bowled out the visitors for 164, to win by two wickets.

It means, despite finishing level on points with title rivals Bollington, that Warrington are champions by a single victory – topping their championship challengers on games won by 15 to 14 this season.

On winning the toss Warrington, inserted Northwich in a game reduced to 48 overs each.

This was not a problem to the home side with Nathan Green producing his best performance of the campaign.

He ended with 7 for 43 in 13 overs, backed up by Brad McIntosh with 2 for 53 and James Rudd on 1 for 15.

It had the away side bowled out in 43 overs.

Facing an achievable total, a number of batsmen made starts but none went on to score freely.

After Mal Agar, 27, Adam Green, 20, and James Rudd, 21, featured in the top order it was left to Will Fleetwood, ending the innings on 38 not out, to marshal the lower order.

James Lewis, 21, added a 37-run partnership for Ashley Scholes to hit the winning boundary in the fading light.

Warrington seconds enjoyed a seven-wicket win against their rival Grappenhall counterparts – a game played at Walton Lea due to Grappers’ home ground being relaid.

Grappenhall were under pressure from all the Warrington bowling attack.

Losing three early wickets they tried to regroup but the home side pinned them down to 110 all out.

Ricshav Manta 3 for 23, Sy Hewitt, 2 for 16, Ryan Swart, 2 for 32, and Phil Whelan, 2 for 33, shared the wickets.

After losing two early wickets, Simon Swain, 44, and Tom Higham, 42 not out, mastered the visitors’ below-par total to see Warrington home to a clear seven-wicket victory.

The third team were held to a draw at Brooklands, despite only losing three wickets.

On their small ground Brooklands looked in trouble at 79 for 8, with Tom Fagan-Hall taking 5 for 37 and Aron Soni on 2 for 24.

But the home side’s tail wagged as they amassed 229 for 8.

Warrington were then held in check in reply as the home side bowled tightly.

Vijay Doraisamy, 47, and Finlan, 50, built a slow partnership with Dave Lee, making an unbeaten 46, seeing the Warrington innings close on 163 for 3.

Put in to bat Upton had to thank Warrington fourths for some lapses in the field to give them an extra 40 runs.

Jon Burgess, 4 for 30, and 13-year-old Jack Street, 2 for 31, were the pick of the bowlers as the first innings closed on 202 for 7.

Warrington were off to a brisk start as Les Connolly, 25, set the tone but other batsmen could not keep up the pace. Mans Naseem, 22, and Andy Goodfellow, 18, and Paul Agar, 37 not out. enabled the home side to bat out a draw.
