EHSAN Malik’s attempts to save Stretton’s poor innings came in vain as they slumped to a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Port Sunlight.

With his side struggling at 18 for 4 after electing to bat first, Malik led from the front to score 45, supported by Junaid Mir, 34, as Streton finished on 154 all out in 35 overs.

They had reduced Port Sunlight to 29 for 3 when it started raining, and having to bowl with a wet ball took the sting out of Stretton’s attack as they eventually fell to a six-wicket loss.

Stretton second team restricted Stalybridge to 174, with two wickets each for Joe Large, Graham Stone, Waqas Qayum, and Ben Bravington.

But collapsing to 30 for 6 in reply, the only resistance came from schoolboy William Metcalfe with 24 as Stretton were skittled for 81.
