ADAM Whelan was more than happy with his catches from two of Warrington Anglers’ Association fisheries, namely Sandiway Lakes and Rixton Claypits, this week.

At Sandiway he has beaten his personal best tench three times with fish of 8lbs 1oz 0drs, 8-4-0 and 9-0-0 among a catch which included three over 7lbs as well as one over six.

Not to be outdone, his dad Paul also had a personal best of 8-8-0.

At Rixton, in addition to tench he caught two double-figure common carp, the best weighing in at 22-8-0.

Paul Wynne and his brother-in-law Phil Hancock also got among the tench at Grey Mist Mere on Tuesday when, after a first light start, Phil opened his account with a 6-2-0 fish closely followed by one of 5-2-0.

After a change from the float to a maggot feeder Paul lost two large fish at the net before landing his first at 4-12-0, beating his personal by 4ounces.

It just got better after that as he followed this with six more fish, each increasing in size to a specimen of 7-7-0.

Contrary to rumour, there is life at Appleton Reservoir according to regular Brian Gavin, who has had some cracking success using either the waggler or maggot feeder.

This past week Brian had quality roach, rudd, small tench and three bream taking the majority on the feeder method.

The bream are a rare catch, although many years ago the fishery was stuffed with them.

The Disabled and over 60s match this week saw some close results with less than two ounces separating winner Lennie Dutton, with 5-3-2 of skimmers and roach, from runner up Brian (the bread man) Pilkington on 5-1-3.

The lowest section weight was 3-2-0 won by match organiser John Dagnall by a triple default, although he had some decent caster roach.

I realise that the recent hot weather has seen an influx of swimmers trespassing on our fisheries but I would advise against direct confrontation and would ask members to ring the Police immediately and let me know of the incident number and outcome.

Many fish have recently spawned and persons swimming or wading through weed are potentially causing untold damage to the future stocks.

Please continue sending in your catch reports as they are valuable to both your fellow members and your committee.
