WOOLSTON Rovers head coach John Fieldhouse is looking forward to a “pleasant headache” when picking his side to face Dewsbury Celtic this afternoon, kick off 2.30pm.

The game is Rovers’ final regular round fixture and, having already secured a play-off place in National Conference League Division Three, their aim now is to secure a home tie.

The Green and Golds, currently fifth, trail third-placed Dewsbury Moor and fourth-placed Eastmoor by two points, with the latter having a game in hand.

Rovers will need results to go their way in order to return to Monks Sports Club in the play-offs, but Fieldhouse wants his side to build on Saturday’s 60-0 thrashing of Barrow Island.

“We were absolutely on fire last week at Barrow Island,” he said.

“We’ll be looking to build on that performance on Saturday so that we can go into the play-off games with a lot of confidence.

“We need other results to go our way if we are to finish any higher, but it is vital that we keep our momentum going.

“We are likely to have several players back this weekend, which will give me a pleasant headache as the boys who stepped up last week did a great job.”

Saturday’s 11-try romp means Rovers go into their final regular round game having won seven of their past eight matches.

“That was a massive win for us; we were outstanding in both attack and defence and never let Barrow into the game,” Fieldhouse said.

“This was our first consistent 80 minute performance of the season and I was absolutely delighted.

“This was something I have been asking the lads for all year and it was achieved with only 15 players after two late withdrawals on the morning of the game.

“There were several stand out players, but overall it was a classy all-round team performance with every player playing their part.”

Meanwhile, Woolston Rovers A are aiming for a clean sweep of trophies as they face Westhoughton Lions in the North West Men’s League Division Four play-off final today, kick off 11.30am.

The game will be played at Pilkington Recs’ Ruskin Drive ground in St Helens and Rovers A joint-coach Andy Penny says it will be a “tremendously hard-fought encounter.”

As well as the Division Four title, Rovers A have also scooped the Warrington Alliance Cup and NWML Shield in a stellar 2017.

“We have been magnificent all season and it would be a dream if we could round everything off with our fourth piece of silverware in just over five weeks,” Penny said.

“The way the lads have played all year has been beyond our wildest dreams, so it would be a very special moment if we could claim the trophy.

“We have had two tough battles with Westhoughton this season, won one and lost one, so we know it is going to be a tremendously hard-fought encounter.

“Hopefully we can come out on top to complete a tremendous campaign.”
