WOOLSTON Rovers will have to improve again for Saturday’s trip to National Conference League Division Three leaders West Bowling, head coach John Fieldhouse says.

Victory would take Rovers, currently fifth, to within two points of the league’s summit.

Fieldhouse admits he will once again be forced into changes to his side but says his side will take confidence from a 37-28 win over the Bradford-based side at Monks Sports Club on April 22.

That was the last time West Bowling lost a league game and Fieldhouse is fully aware of the task that faces Rovers, who go into the game on the back of Saturday’s 54-16 win at Waterhead Warriors.

“We played some excellent rugby last weekend but know that we will have to perform even better at West Bowling,” he said.

“They are in red-hot form at the minute and deservedly sit at the top of the league table.

“We had a superb win over them at our place earlier in the season which will give us confidence going into the game. It is definitely one that we are capable of winning with our strongest side out.

“Unfortunately we are likely to be missing a couple from last week but we should be able to welcome back a few to the side that will give us a boost.”

A coach will be on hand for supporters wishing to travel and will leave Monks Sports Club at 11.30am.

Meanwhile, Woolston Rovers A return to action in North West Men’s League Division Four as they host Manchester Rangers A on Saturday.

Joint coach Andy Penny hopes a week’s break has not had an adverse effect on his squad.

“The boys are really champing at the bit to get back on the field after not playing last week,” he said.

“Manchester will be coming to us hoping to catch us cold. They have won their last two games, both away from home, so they will be full of confidence.

“It should be an entertaining game and one we are looking forward to.”

Kick off at Monks Sports Club is at 2.30pm.
