Thornhill Trojans 32 Crosfields 6

MARK Brennan says his Crosfields team will be put through some intense sessions in their three-week break from games after their third defeat in a row.

Having occupied top spot for most of 2017, the result drops Soap to fifth in National Conference League Division Two.

“The effort and desire was evident but we were just lacking the end product,” Soap head coach Brennan said.

“We have it in us, we just need to bring it out and get back to our early season form.

“We have two weeks off now, so we can have some intense sessions and fix things up.”

Soap made an assured start against a side that started the day level on points with them and their pressure was duly rewarded when Joe Clarke spun out of a tackle to cross, with skipper Jack Reid adding the extras.

However, that was as good as it got for Soap as George Stott and Liam Morley crossed to give Thornhill an 8-6 lead at the break.

George Woodcock and Joss Ratcliffe crossed to stretch the lead for the Dewsbury-based Trojans, with Danny Ratcliffe adding two penalties.

Woodcock and Stott doubled their tallies late on to seal another defeat for Soap.

Brennan’s side now have an extended break from action, with their next game seeing them host Millom on Saturday, July 1.

Crosfields: Chris Hull; Nathan Taylor, Josh Whitham, Chris Burgess, Keiron Thomas; Jack Reid, John Whittaker; Phil Brazendale, Hayden James, John Pickersgill, Tom Brown, Joe Moore, Joe Clarke. Subs: Bailey Hartley, Steve Pickersgill, Sam Hickey, Matty Barber.

DEFENCE was the winner at Hood Lane in an intriguing battle between two of the frontrunners in North West Men’s League Division Three.

Soap were beaten 66-4 in this fixture last week, so keeping the score down was a mark of their improvement.

The hosts put Cuthberts under intense pressure on several occasions, but the more experienced outfit took their chances to emerge victorious.

Their next game sees them travel to neighbours Burtonwood Bridge on Saturday, June 24.
