Bradford Dudley Hill 26 Crosfields 24

SOAP’S unbeaten start to their National Conference League Division Two campaign came to an agonising end on Saturday.

The hosts scored two converted tries in the final minute as they snatched victory from Mark Brennan’s side.

After soaking up incessant pressure from the hosts early on, Soap took the lead against the run of play when a sweeping move led to Nathan Taylor putting Dan Reid over in the right corner.

However, the visitors kept conceding possession and were punished as Adam Whitely’s converted try edged the hosts in front.

Neil Wall extended Hill’s lead but that only served to wake Crosfields up.

Tom Millington and John Whittaker made good metres through the middle and that allowed Matt Barber to crash over between the posts, with Jack Reid’s conversion ensuring his side went into the break level.

Barber’s score changed the momentum of the game as Soap hit their hosts with a three-try blitz to take control of proceedings.

Millington won the race to touch down a grubber kick from Reid, who added the extras, before a quick play-the-ball saw Hayden James spot a gap and race home.

Skipper Reid chased down his own grubber to give the visitors a 24-10 lead, but they could not have expected what happened next.

The tide started to turn in Hill’s favour on 62 minutes when James Morton crossed in the corner, but Liam Naven’s sin-binning increased Soap’s prospects of hanging on.

However, with several players going off injured and Steve Pickersgill joining Naven in the sin bin, Morton got his second try between the posts to reduce the gap to four points.

The home side piled on the pressure and it told with the game’s final play with a try in the corner to snatch victory.

Having suffered their first defeat of the season, Brennan’s side must now pick themselves up to welcome Thornhill Trojans to Hood Lane on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

Crosfields: Ash Cornelia; Dan Reid, Nathan Taylor, Chris Hull, Keiron Thomas; Jack Reid, John Whittaker; David Boden, Hayden James, Phil Brazendale, Lewis Bani, Ben Mellor, Tom Millington. Subs: Matt Barber, Jordan Ansell, Tom Brown, Steve Pickersgill.
